Brewers extend Gallardo

Brewers signed RHP Yovani Gallardo to a five-year, $30.1 million contract extension with a $13 million option for 2015.

Gallardo will receive a $1.25 million signing bonus as part of the new deal. He'll make $500,000 this season -- as opposed to his previously-renewed contract of $450,000 -- $3.25 million in 2011, $5.5 million in 2012, $7.75 million in 2013 and $11.25 million in 2014. The option for 2015 includes a $600,000 buyout. There's obviously some risk attached to such a lengthy commitment, but the 24-year-old is quickly emerging as one of the most promising right-handed pitchers in the National League. This contract may pay serious dividends down the line.

Good to see the Brew Crew ink their best starter for 5 more seasons. They have been a war of words with the Yankees lately about money so I'm glad they pulled this off.
