TMZ.com broke the story on Monday morning that former WWE superstar Dave Batista is becoming a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter.

The 6'5", 290 pound Batista was in Hollywood over the weekend and told TMZ that he's headed to the Strikeforce MMA promotion, home of another former WWE superstar, Bobby Lashley.

Batista even told the TMZ camera guy that he already has his first fight lined up, but can't comment on it just yet.

There have been rumors for months that the 41 year old Batista would be following in the footsteps of Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley. Now, it's official.
Okay, now we know. I'm not sure why someone making millions on weekly TV would choose the relatively brutal life of MMA, but to each his own. Honestly, I was never in love with any of his three WWE characters and I don't expect my enjoyment of the product to suffer. Are any of you really bothered?

Strikeforce said that Batista hasn't be signed yet, I don't have a source to back it up but my friend read it online yesterday. I personally think this is a dumb move by Batista. He's 41 years old, doesn't have much MMA background(he did Mutai, or something of that nature)

It's going to be a touch challenge for him and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his ass whooped during his first match. That's if SF actually signs him.

Batista is going to get absolutely destroyed at Strikeforce. Fedor, Lashley, etc...they are going to eat him alive.

Not a smart move IMO.

Some people are already starting to bash Batista for this.

Booker T came out and said that Lashley will destroy Batista.

Brock Lesnar came out and said that along the lines of you're not fit for this type of stuff, go back to where you belong.

Batista replied and said I'll fight anyone, anywhere.

Sorry no source to back up the statements.

Here are the comments from Brock Lesnar...

In the days following former Batista’s announcement that he’s becoming an MMA fighter, UFC Heavyweight champion and former fellow WWE superstar Brock Lesnar is weighing in on the story.

In an interview with MMAFighting.com to promote his 7/3 fight against Shane Carwin, Lesnar was asked about Batista telling TMZ that he will be fighting for the Strikeforc MMA promotion and has a fight lined up already. Lesnar responded:

“Get in line, everybody and their dog wants to get into fighting. Next question. We’re talking about a heavyweight championship fight, not some wannabe.”

Lesnar is spot on.
