Sounds like a good move for the Athletics. Cheap and he's still a proven bat.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the A's are on the verge of completing a one-year, $5.25 million deal with Jason Giambi.

If Olney's numbers are correct, it's a major steal for Oakland. The contract also carries an option for 2010 worth just $4 million. Giambi made $23.5 million last season and hit .247/.373/.502 with 32 dingers and 96 RBI.

The A's already got Matt Holliday and if they sign Giambi that'd be a nice 3-4.

Giambi has always been able to hit he just needs to stop with the mustache because it looks ridiculous.

Shit I forgot about Holliday...that is a nice 1-2 punch they'll have. They are so young but ya never know.

If they get him for that cheap it's a good deal, even though his production went down after being accused of taking enhancement drungs, he's still a power hitter, he'll drive in the runs and hit thelong ball. He'll split time from first and DH. Good signing if it does happen.
