Albums Every Rock Fan Should Own

We all have an opinion of what our favourite albums are, but what do you feel are albums every rock fan should own?

A couple off the top of my head:

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath or Paranoid
Metallica - Black Album
Muse - Hysteria
Nirvana - Nevermind
I'd like to say something by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but I think there are others who know them better to suggest actual albums
Oh, and something by The Eagles

Fans of metal should definitely have:

Machine Head - The Blackening
Lamb of God - Sacrament
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell

Jeanie

The Zeppelin album every fan should own is IV.

Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street. (Didja hear that, Tucker?) Actually I can't really say which Stones album every fan should own. Either Exile, or Sticky Fingers, or Let It Bleed.

Bruce Springsteen Born To Run.

I ♥ Haters
Rocket to Russia - The Ramones
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland (and for that matter, the other two as well)
The Beatles - The White Album
The Clash - London Calling

Just to name a few, I guess...
------
Oh and I forgot Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon.

Good stuff being thrown out there, for sure.

Keeping in mind that a lot of stuff has already been mentioned that I woulda said, here's a few more:

Jimi Hendrix "Axis: Bold as Love"

The Doors: "Morrison Hotel"

Cream: "Disraeli Gears"

Pink Floyd: "Dark Side of the Moon"

The Beatles: "The White Album"

Billy Squier: "Don't Say No" (bet I get lambasted for that one)

Fleetwood Mac: "Rumors" (and possibly that one)

Pearl Jam: "Vitalogy"

Funkadelic: "Maggot Brain"

T. Rex: "Electric Warrior"

The Clash: "London Calling"

MC5: "Back in the USA"

Steve Miller Band: "Fly Like an Eagle"

Bob Dylan: "Highway 61 Revisited"

Van Morrison: "Moondance"

Robert Johnson: "King of the Delta Blues Singers"

Love: "Forever Changes"

Muddy Waters: "The Anthology"

David Bowie: "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars"

The Allman Brothers: "Live at Fillmore East"

Neil Young: "Harvest"

Janis Joplin: "Pearl"

Hmmmm... I guess I should stop. Looking at my list so far, I see that I mostly stuck to classic rock, though there is PLENTY of new rock that I would put on this list, too. Also, if I were limited to 5 or 10 albums, obviously my list would be different, and, obviously, my head would explode.

Anyway. That's it for now, though there are tons more I would add...

I think I'd go with Pearl Jam's Ten instead of Vitalogy.

The Black Crowes - Southern Harmony and Musical Companion

Tool - Aenima

Buddy Guy - Damn Right I've Got the Blues

Soundgarden - Superunknown

yes I will lambaste you for Billy Squier. I thought I knew you so well. :-/ Fleetwood Mac Rumors is pretty standard though.

CaptainObvious

Embrace the Suck

AC/DC- Back in Black

Black Sabbath- Paranoid

Judas Priest- British Steel

Rush- Moving Pictures and 2112

Van Halen- Van Halen

Tool-Aenima

Metallica-Master of Puppets, Black Album

Led Zepplin- IV

Iron Maiden- Number of the Beast

Here are a few I would include (though its kind of a mix of rock and metal):

Arch Enemy - Dead Eyes see no Future
Children of Bodom - Are you dead yet
System of a Down - System of a Down
Cthonic - Seediq Bale
Civit - Hell hath no Fury
Devil Driver - Devil Driver
Helmet - Meantime
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
Stone Sour - Stone Sour
The Mars Volta - De-Louse in the Comatorium

Great list. For Manson though, as much as I love Holy Wood, I feel Mechanical Animals and Golden Age of Grotesque were stronger. And even though that is my favourite SOAD album, i'd say Toxicity would be better in it's place. Also with Slayer, Reign in Blood is where its at.

I believe Rumors from Fleetwood Mac is a fantastic, well written album. Lots of great hits.

Another one that I would like to add to the list is Hysteria by Def Leppard. I know, we don't have many Def Leppard fans here at GF(which is unfortunate) but this is a top notch album, which was a huge success.

I see that CO added Van Halen, I personally think 1984 is better.

I am kind of torn between Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood. I loved the unholy trilogy a lot though as a whole. I thought Golden Age was oka-ish but was nothing special, though better than The High end of Low & Eat me Drink me. I am interested what he will come out with next.

The same kind of counts for SOAD, I think all the albums were as good as each other.
