Africa Is on Basketball Map Now

Aw, Here It Goes!
Fran Blinebury of THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE writes, "Ever since a skinny kid named Akeem Olajuwon showed up on the doorstep at the University of Houston a quarter century ago and hopped on the fast track to a Hall of Fame career, the basketball world has been waiting for Africa to emerge as a power. Finally, that time could be near. Angola, Nigeria and Senegal qualified for the World Championship, and two of the three made it out of the first round."

Even if the United States whipped Senegal to crap, their players don't look all that bad. I can guarantee you that given the right place and coaching many of those players would develop and become better.

Angola's team doesn't look too shabby at all, same thing for them and Nigeria. Just give those countries time to develop their basketball skills and in the future they will be able to matchup with the bigger basketball countries.

I totally agree. They don;t the luxuary like other country's do. If they could get it I am sure will see some players from those country's get drafted in the NBA. It won't happen in the next few years but maybe in 5 to 10 years you'll see people from Nigeria, Angola and Senegal get their named called to the podium in the NBA draft.
